How does FHE work in simple terms?

Imagine a box that you can put data in and lock. This box is special: you can give it to someone else and they can perform operations on the data inside the box without being able to open it. They return the box, still locked, and you can then open it to see the result of the operation.

This is similar to how FHE works: data is encrypted, operations are performed on the encrypted data, and the results are decrypted to reveal the outcome.
